FAQs

What are dentures?

Dentures are removable prosthetics that replace missing teeth. Dentures are made of artificial teeth that are bonded to an acrylic or chrome base. With the guidance of the dental clinician you will be able to choose the colour, size and shape of the teeth you desire. Some patients like to bring in photos of what their teeth once looked like for the clinician to replicate.

A good denture should feel comfortable when worn. If you have not worn dentures before, it’s normal to take a few days or weeks to get used to new pair of dentures. The dental clinician will advise you on how long to wear your denture for each day.

Where do the materials you use come from?

We are supplied by local respectable dental companies that import most of the materials from Europe and Japan.

Why do my dentures keep breaking even after repair?

Like most things, dentures are prone to breakage when used incorrectly or are broken accidentally. It is definitely not the end of the world as we can repair most dentures within the same day. But if you have dentures that breaks constantly, it may be some underlying issues with the dentures. Most common reason for a continuous breakage of denture is because the denture is no longer fitting well in the mouth.

Feel free to book in a FREE consultation with one of our friendly clinicians, and we can identify the problems with your existing denture.

How do I care and clean my dentures?

Taking your denture out at night gives your gums a chance to rest. It also stops you from grinding on them, which can make them wear out quicker. After cleaning your denture, place them in water. Using dishwashing detergent is the easiest way of brushing your dentures Cleaning. If you have excessive built up on your denture, we do sell denture cleaning product on-site.

Do not use: Very hot water, bleaches, methylated spirits, ordinary toothpaste, abrasive or strong chemicals.

How come my denture do not fit as well before and feels loose?

Dentures, when they are first fitted should feel firmly in your mouth. Overtime, you will feel the dentures becoming loose and eventually ill fitting and hurting your gums. This is something every denture wearer will experience overtime. This is happening because the gums in your mouth shrink over time, and now there is a space between the denture fitting surface to your denture. If you are experiencing this, feel free to come in for one of our friendly clinicians to see if we can reline or rebase your existing denture and make them fit better again.

I have lost a few teeth, do I really need to get a partial denture?

Yes, it would be beneficial. Teeth move and when there is a gap as a result of a missing tooth, other teeth around the gap will move to take up some of the space. You could end up with crooked, tilted or rotated teeth - this may even affect your bite or result in your teeth becoming damaged and falling out faster.

How long would my dentures last?

As long as you treat your dentures well, they should last several years. On average dentures should be replaced every 5 to 10 years
